Tuition & Automatic Payments
*
Your assigned weekly lesson time is reserved for you beginning on the date of your first lesson and for the duration of the studio year (with the last lessons being on June 28th, 2024). All lesson tuition payments are due in advance on a monthly basis and are processed automatically through MJMS’s secure payment processor. On the 1st day of each month, that month's tuition is automatically charged to the credit card or bank account on file for each student. Tuition is not prorated, credited, or refunded for lessons missed by the students. For students who begin lessons after the start of the studio year, tuition fees are prorated based on lesson start date.
I understand and agree
Monthly Payments are Always the Same
*
Tuition amounts are calculated based on the total number of lessons in the studio year. The total tuition amount* is divided by ten, so that each monthly payment is for the same amount. In some months, students may receive five lessons; in other months, due to scheduled holiday breaks, students may receive two or three lessons. We do not charge more in months where students receive five lessons, and we do not charge less or schedule makeup lessons in months where students receive two or three lessons. Lesson tuition remains the same each month, making financial planning simpler for all. *If you submitted a pre-registration deposit with your registration form, your deposit will be applied as a credit to your total tuition amount for the year. The remaining tuition amount is then divided into equal monthly payments.

Discontinuing Lessons
*
Students wishing to discontinue lessons and recurring charges to their account must submit the official MJMS withdrawal form by the 15th day prior to the month in which they wish to discontinue, no exceptions. Withdrawal notice may not be given to the teacher. Students are responsible for paying lesson tuition for any unused lessons.

Lesson Time Change Requests
*
Students who wish to change their weekly lesson day or time on an ongoing basis due to a scheduling conflict may request a lesson time change. Lesson time change requests must be submitted by the 15th of the month and the change will take effect the first week of the following month. Students are expected to attend scheduled lessons and credit will not be offered for lessons missed by students during the period between the lesson time change being requested and the new lesson time starting. All scheduling matters must be directed to the MJMS Admin department via email: admin@mjms.school.
I understand and agree
Scheduling Matters Must Go Through MJMS HQ
*
All scheduling matters (including but not limited to student lesson cancellations, scheduling conflicts, vacation plans, lesson time change requests, and discontinuation notice) are handled by the MJMS Admin department. Scheduling issues may not be discussed with MJMS teachers. If you have questions, concerns, or need to notify of an upcoming scheduling conflict, please email admin@mjms.school.

Teacher Cancellations & Substitute Teachers
*
For any lessons missed by a teacher, a qualified substitute teacher will teach the student's regularly scheduled lesson. If a substitute teacher cannot be arranged in time, the regularly scheduled lesson will be cancelled and a makeup lesson pass will be issued to the student's account to use at their convenience.
I understand and agree
Student Cancellations & Makeup Lessons
*
Cancellations must be completed through the MJMS Admin department, not with the teacher. MJMS requires 24 hours’ notice if a student is unable to attend their scheduled lesson; the instructor will then prepare a custom video makeup lesson for the student that may include the following: new repertoire, technique, listening activities and/or theory assignments. If a student is scheduled for an in-studio lesson and would like to switch to a virtual lesson, notice must be received via email prior to 2:00pm on their scheduled lesson day. Tuition will not be refunded for lessons missed by students. For lesson cancellations and virtual lesson requests, please email admin@mjms.school.

Makeup Lesson Passes
*
Upon enrollment for the 2023-24 MJMS studio year, each student will be issued two makeup lesson passes. Makeup lesson passes are valid for lessons on any instrument with any teacher on a first-come, first-serve basis, and may be used at the student’s convenience any time during the current studio year. A makeup lesson pass can be requested using this form: https://mjms.school/makeup-lesson-pass-request and will not be issued if 24 hours’ cancellation notice has not been given. Tuition will not be refunded for lessons missed by students.
I understand and agree
Late Arrivals
*
If a student is late to their lesson, the missed time is forfeited and will not be made up by the teacher. If the teacher is late, the missed time will be made up at the end of the lesson or at a mutually agreeable time.
I understand and agree
Lesson Books, Sheet Music, & Other Materials
*
All MJMS students will be provided with a dictation book on their first day of lessons free of charge. Additional materials recommended by the student's teacher such as lesson books, sheet music, or other learning materials will be purchased by MJMS and the charge(s) added to the student’s monthly invoice. Selected free sheet music and other learning materials are provided to the student at no cost through the MJMS library.

Care of Students
*
McDonald Johnston Music Studio is not responsible for the care or safety of students before or after their scheduled lesson time. If a student is not coming and going from the studio independently, we ask that parents or caregivers of students either remain on premises during the lesson time or be back in time for the end of the lesson to pick their child up.
I understand and agree
Behaviour
*
MJMS is a supportive, inclusive, and non-judgmental space. We are proud to be a welcoming and safe space for our cherished 2SLGBTQ+ community and we expect our students and their families to treat other students, our instructors, our instruments, and our studio space with kindness and respect. This expectation extends to all MJMS students, whether their lessons are virtual or in-person.
I understand and agree
Safety in the Studio
*
Due to allergy concerns, animals are not permitted in the MJMS studio under any circumstance. Similarly, the studio is a nut-free zone and no food is permitted past the studio foyer. Bikes, scooters, and strollers must be left outside the studio. Shoes must be removed in the entryway. Please respect our instruments: wash hands before playing and do not bring food or drinks into the studio waiting area or lesson rooms.
I understand and agree
Covid-19 and illness
*
MJMS reserves the right to shift in-studio lessons to virtual lessons if an instructor becomes uncomfortable teaching in-person. Mask use is not mandated in the studio but we will be keeping a close eye on case counts and we may revisit a mask requirement if we feel it’s warranted for the safety of our community. If you would prefer that your instructor wear a mask, please email admin@mjms.school. MJMS instructors and students are asked to self-assess for cold, flu, and COVID symptoms, and to refrain from coming to the studio and/or switch to a virtual lesson if they are experiencing such symptoms.
